About the book
Art teacher Amanda returns home to find her husband, Mathew, murdered. The police have no leads and the only clue is a missing photograph album. Amanda soon learns that her husband had been taking out loans against her home, leaving her in negative equity, a fact the police are quick to latch onto. And despite the threatening letters that have been arriving daily, with photographs from the stolen album, Amanda quickly becomes the main suspect.
Terrified, panicked and with no one to turn to, Amanda flees to her aunt Dorothy, in London, where she tries to put together the pieces of Mathew’s mysterious past. Can Amanda, with Dorothy’s guidance, ever come to terms with what has happened? And can she solve the mystery before the sender of the threatening letters finds her?
‘Death of a Butterfly’ is the story of an incredible transformation.

“This book made a deep impression on me. A thrilling story, but also a fascinating transformation of a human being in her grief, anger, fear and love. Simon Brown shares a humble way of relating to the world, a new view, and shows a way to pass it on to others. The story reminded me of Desmond Tutu and the trials in South Africa after the genocides. He wanted to heal the whole country with forgiveness and love. To read Simon’s book creates hope for the future, because if that idea exists in one human being, it will spread. I highly recommend “Death of a Butterfly”.”Marianne Jensen-Rose
"The main character Amanda is an ordinary woman, who´s normal life takes a total U-turn in this exciting, mystery crime. On page one she finds her husband murdered. A husband who she painfully realises has a shocking past. On top of this she becomes the main suspect of the crime, and resolves to solve it herself. She receives gruesome threatening letters and finds everything she thought she knew has changed from one day to another.
Amanda flees from the police and hides at her eccentric, old aunt´s flat in London. Step by step her aunt gently guides Amanda to try and solve the mystery by having a different view of life and it´s challenges. A life without fear, assumptions and judgements.
By writing this book Simon Brown did something I have never seen before. He combined a mystery crime with a life changing transformation of a normal person like you and me. Amanda´s shock, fears and challenges becomes ours. I followed her struggles, recognized her doubts and was challenged to think about my own life in a different way too. This is what made the book so strong, very present and believable.
I found it easy to read and exciting from page one to the end. It´s very cinematic - running like a film in my mind´s eye. I read it, loved it and truly recommend it."
